I cancelled within 20 mins of intended inquiry which led to a hard booking for same day arrival. After sending the inquiry, my daughter tested positive to +covid, and we were unable to travel. Contacted host immediately upon receipt of booking to inform we could no longer move forward. Cancelled directly with airbnb as well. Host never responded and airbnb cancelled with a refund of ZERO. Airbnb has a full refund 48 hr policy, and we were well within this. Yet they also have a zero refund within 14 days of stay. Clearly it was not possible to cancel within 14 days since our booking was made for same day arrival. Seems like an unfair loophole. I'm unable to reach anyone other than basic level customer service and they've been unhelpful. I never heard from the host. Pure greed and thievery in my opinion. How was either airbnb or host inconvenienced by this? Zero refund? A one night stay penalty - MAX - would be the only fair way to resolve this. Where's the human decency?

Well, you are talking about the superhost with 365 glowing reviews, all 5*
"Children beds" you are talking about are in fact, very comfy looking single beds and nobody else complained about them. The difference between children's beds and single beds is common knowledge and easy googlable
"Laundry left in the closet" was most probably extra sheets and blankets in case someone needs them. This is common in all Airbnbs.
I can't comment on your review and his reply bc I couldn't find it but the impression I got about you from this post is "better suited to stay home" where everything is just the way you like it.

YES, I rented a home recently and my review of the property was significantly edited to
remove anything constructive, but possibly construed as negative by prospective renters.
My evaluation was very positive overall about not only the property, but the host as well.
However, the few constructive comments about needing more glassware and flatware in the
kitchen along with the air conditioning system that was woefully inadequate for the size of
the home were deleted. The remaining review incorporated only the positive comments and
there were many, however this does not give prospective renters the complete picture and is a very unethical practice. Additionally, if the review is deleted before the homeowner has a chance to see it, it does not give the homeowner an opportunity to improve the situation in
the home.
Needless to say, I was very disappointed in this practice.

We are dealing with the exact same issue with Airbnb as we were supposed to go to Valle de Guadalupe and had to cancel too.

I have already contacted my credit card company about this, but I am also thinking about seeking legal recourse as Airbnb has an extenuating circumstances policy that this clearly falls under. Would you be interested in exploring other legal routes?

As a former Airbnb host and also guest, I have had many good experiences but how Airbnb handles the bad apples in the bunch is really beyond my wildest imaginings.
I have had to call the police, was assaulted by a guest, had things stolen etc but the experiences that I had as a potential guest in an illegal listing in NYC soured me from the site completely. They absolutely know many of their NYC listings are outright illegal and still market them.
I decided to cancel my reservation before staying and was fortunate to receive my money back from American Express.
I would never book through them and risk being without a place to stay during a holiday or work trip.

I think one property hosts at this point are all one guest away from leaving the platform. This site is just geared for property management companies who have housekeeping, security and concierge teams able to handle all the situations that come up along the way

In reply to <a href="https://www.airbnbhell.com/contact-airbnb/comment-page-3/#comment-53331">Kathryn and Simon Allen</a>.

I booked unit 2007 Brickstone Mews mississauga l was told the address last minute so that if l cancelled they would hit me with a cancellation fee. On arrival l complained the blind was broken and the tv did not work. The vendor, Rohit Ratti said the previous tenant did that and he had taken it away for repairs. The sheets were stained, dry rot in the bathroom along with broken blind and tv. Nothing was fixed, l was stuck for somewhere to stay so l wrote a bad review. In return Ratti claimed l broke the blind, fortunately l kept a screenshot of him saying the previous tenant broke it. I sent air bnb photos of that dialogue and the faults, waiting for a reply still. Thinking l want my money back. It cost over £1000 to rent a slum dwelling l was stuck with, but l doubt if that's possible.
