I cancelled within 20 mins of intended inquiry which led to a hard booking for same day arrival. After sending the inquiry, my daughter tested positive to +covid, and we were unable to travel. Contacted host immediately upon receipt of booking to inform we could no longer move forward. Cancelled directly with airbnb as well. Host never responded and airbnb cancelled with a refund of ZERO. Airbnb has a full refund 48 hr policy, and we were well within this. Yet they also have a zero refund within 14 days of stay. Clearly it was not possible to cancel within 14 days since our booking was made for same day arrival. Seems like an unfair loophole. I'm unable to reach anyone other than basic level customer service and they've been unhelpful. I never heard from the host. Pure greed and thievery in my opinion. How was either airbnb or host inconvenienced by this? Zero refund? A one night stay penalty - MAX - would be the only fair way to resolve this. Where's the human decency?

I booked unit 2007 Brickstone Mews mississauga l was told the address last minute so that if l cancelled they would hit me with a cancellation fee. On arrival l complained the blind was broken and the tv did not work. The vendor, Rohit Ratti said the previous tenant did that and he had taken it away for repairs. The sheets were stained, dry rot in the bathroom along with broken blind and tv. Nothing was fixed, l was stuck for somewhere to stay so l wrote a bad review. In return Ratti claimed l broke the blind, fortunately l kept a screenshot of him saying the previous tenant broke it. I sent air bnb photos of that dialogue and the faults, waiting for a reply still. Thinking l want my money back. It cost over £1000 to rent a slum dwelling l was stuck with, but l doubt if that's possible.

Aubrey, what ever happened with this complaint? I am very curious to know because I too was stranded in NYC after Airbnb didn't verify the booking and it looked nothing like the photos. Did you file a lawsuit? arbitration? mediation? Please email me sana.butler@gmail.com

In reply to <a href="https://www.airbnbhell.com/contact-airbnb/comment-page-3/#comment-53331">Kathryn and Simon Allen</a>.

Posting this article to warn people against using Airbnb. I believed Airbnb would protect guests in the same manner eBay does (i.e. if you don't get what you pay for, your money is refunded). Couldn't be more wrong.

We placed a 4 week reservation for an apartment. After placing the reservation and paying for the entire stay (more than $1000), the host requested additional money for cleaning fees, stating it was part of his "policy". As the requested monies were clearly outside the established booking contract, we contacted Airbnb to request a refund of the booking. The host clearly did not feel bound by Airbnb's contracts or policies, and we did not want to put ourselves at further risk.

Airbnb skirted the issue through 5 customer service representatives, two of whom stated the host had not violated any policies to enable a refund and contract termination. The last representative confirmed they would not cancel or refund the booking, despite the host asking for more money after the reservation (we hadn't even set foot in the property yet). I expected so much more from a well known US-based company. But Airbnb's customer service is a scam. They will do anything to get their commission, regardless of the risk/expense incurred by their guests.

I've already lost my money. The only recourse now is small claims court, but the costs likely far outweigh the benefits, so I'm out of luck (and $1000). I post this is as a warning to the rest, and in hopes that Airbnb will reconsider their abusive policies.

Did you ever get a resolution to your problem?

We're dealing with a neighbor that has an illegal rental and refuses to shut down, even though the county red-tagged it.

Arrived to the area booked, no address on any paperwork- midnight. No response from 24/7, owner and number given on website doesn't work. After 2 hours of battling, spent the night in car, 2 people and a dog, 38 degrees C and illegally parked.
No response from anyone at Air B&B and owner refers us to them.

Shocking.

Airbnb is all about guests and could cate less about hosts. As a host I’ve suffered through numerous guest in my home who ranged from pushy to totality inappropriate. No matter how horrible a situation I’ve presented, their response is increasingly about seeing things from the guest’s point of view. It never occurs that without hosts they’d ha e no guests.
