I agree with John. I always arrive late due to that being the only flight from where I am to the US. Then there is the rental car wait time and the hour drive to the location. I always inform my host before I even book the place to see if they are okay with it.
It is harrowing trying to find a place in the dark and thats why I often just do return bookings if I find a nice place so that way I know where I am navigating to.
That trip was a mess from the start. I dont see how the hosts are to blame.

Sorry for your hardship. Airbnb is dependent on the kindness of people who open their homes, and there is no standard to deliver that. It's not a hotel.

Did you communicate through the Airbnb app? If you communicated through the Airbnb app, and showed the responses of the host, clearly you have a case. Cancel the transaction on your credit card.

This is terrible. Sorry about your experience. I assure you there are many good hosts out there like myself. Some people are just exploiters and are using the airbnb platform for their scams. Airbnb should however kick them off the site if auch things happen.

I looked up this host. He has great reviews and a ridiculous low $25/night fee. It appears Airbnb did a refund for nights not stayed after cancellation.

As a host in a rural area, we require guests to have an appointment time. You do NOT just expect to show up late and checkin to an airbnb! Giving a flight time is not the same as asking about an estimated checkin time or appointment .... especially in another language. The directions are literally posted on the site for every host on the map! Banging on neighbors doors late at night is also not a solution!

Please understand that when you use airbnb that you need to be respectful the host and make arrangements as you would to meet a friend of a friend. How can you expect to use an online service when your phone is not functioning?

Lessons to learn:
1.)See what is needed for phone service in various destinations during your travel if you plan to need or use your phone!
2.)Make an appointment for a late arrival with an estimated time and confirm that time the day of travel! That is what most friend guests would do ... right?
3.)Do not expect $200 concierge/hold your hand service when you pay $25!!!
4.)Reconsider late arrivals that might have cheaper flights! Going to an unknown place in another country for the first time is much more easy to navigate during the day!
