I’m both a host and a guest on Airbnb with good and bad experience but I would never go to a place where the host doesn’t answer me within 24 hours.

Now what you desribe seems more like it was an illegal Airbnb with a fake adress and you should really push Airbnb until they refund you

It’s really not ok to arrive at a place and discover it’s sundenly another adress, the man who never replies smells alcohol … should be a red flag for them

But what did the other reviews said about that place ? Was there a lot of reviews?

I have to disagree on this one: hotels have charged way too much for too long for unnecessary and unwanted services and never bothered to adapt to a more varied traveller profile.

The place you booked was probably not even legal. Barcelona doesn’t give any tourist licences anymore. Don’t use Airbnb in Barcelona. You can be quicked out anytime by an inspector and the neighbors will not be your friends. Very understandable since Airbnb is destroying the rental market.
