In reply to <a href="https://www.airbnbhell.com/guests-intentionally-left-cigarette-burns-everything/comment-page-1/#comment-19910">The Bull</a>.

You are suggesting insurance fraud which is punishable by jail time. Lying to homeowner's insurance, that you do not run a short-term rental, is the only way to have home owner's insurance.
Aiding and abetting insurance fraud is the same thing as committing insurance fraud.
It is insurance fraud to omit telling insurance you run a short-term rental. It is a felony.
Asking home owner's insurance to pay for damages caused by renting out your property as a business is an additional felony, it is theft.

Airbnb IMHO encourages insurance fraud constantly. Why they expect all of us quiet, hardworking homeowners to pay the same insurance premiums as tourists and their dogs having the time of their lives is just amazing.
Of course, Airbnb spends millions advertising that short-term rental business owners are "friendly hosts" who are somehow better than the rest of us so we should subsidize their lifestyle.

I am the Author of this article.

Update: After 1 week, Airbnb has determined that i am eligible to claim under their Host Guarantee Programme. For reference however, i was only given 25% of what i claimed, and what i had claimed were on the conservative side, i hope that what i had gone through will be useful for others.

I am well aware of the 3rd party booking issue, but sometimes that line is blurred when they used Airbnb's chat to tell it directly to you bluntly, does it still hold ? Only Airbnb knows the answer to that i believe.

Wow, I'm sorry you're going through such a horrible ordeal. Unfortunately, I don't think Airbnb will help you. This is because it was a third party booking. I've seen other hosts complain that Airbnb washed their hands of responsibility if the guest who booked wasn't one of the guests who stayed.

I host my spare bedroom and, so I have an idea of what guests are up to. Therefore, I accept third party bookings. If I hosted a whole house, I wouldn't accept third party bookings.

Airbnb TOA clearly stipulate that it is illegal to make a booking on somebody else's behalf. You should have refused and contacted Airbnb straight away. Yet, it all depends on communication and tone of emails. I've accepted guests that were related to the Airbnb user that initially booked, but they were ever so polite and appreciative. Airbnb is and remains a gamble:)
