Airbnb don’t have your money, this Mike Harrison does – so how can they be responsible for refunding money they never had?

I find it strange that anyone would hand over $700 without understanding the terms of service and how Airbnb works.

If you can’t book through Airbnb probably not a real listing. As a host I would never ask someone to book off site. I hate Airbnb and their practices, but in your description, they are not at fault.
