The host definitely benefited from the situation. I was in the same position of having to add another card to a booking I had made 6 mos prior but due to my original card being maxed out, when the rest of the money became due. Luckily the add a new card went through seamlessly but I can imagine the nightmare if it didn’t. Airbnb should at least give you credit towards a stay elsewhere.
