It sounds like you received bad guidance from the beginning.
1. Always have reservation change & refund requests on the Airbnb platform so there is written documentation of who said what. If you have a phone call, send a message “for your records here is a summary of what we discussed”. Yes a pain but in this case could save you problems.
2. Sound like you submitted a new booking request instead of an alteration request. Alteration request automatically applies the amount paid for the prior reservation to the new.
The host receives the request & can adjust the rates to match.
3. If the host adjusts the rate, the guest has 24 hours to accept it or you must start over.

4. You can see any PREPAYMENT in your profile. Look for PAYMENT methods & coupons.

Btw this host allowed you to reschedule your trip. Her calendar was blocked & meant no one else could book 2x. Most hosts would not allow it. They would require you to cancel and rebook.

Best wishes on future trips to use the prepayment.

Sadly, if you book at airbnb you are a sucker. There is no help for guests or hosts. So many times the response is post your question in the forum. That doesn't help when you're standing on the streets of Montreal and the address you've been given is an empty lot or in a situation like yours. With my former 6 listinfs they would change reviews, take money from my account but not give it to guests, and even double booked units on multiple occasions or book rooms that were booked already.People are learning how horrible airbnb is only because of sites like this.
