That’s the thing with just having a room in a house that’s occupied by others: you’ll have to deal with the life and dynamics of these people. It sounds like the host do not take their guests seriously, but it also sounds like you might better suit a hotel and should thus have chosen a hotel.

Some people rent out whole apartments that are of hotel standard (because they are clearly a business and don’t live there themselves) and on the other end of that spectrum you may find a single bed in a small room in a student house where you’ll have to share facilities with many others. Naturally the former will be much more expensive than the latter.

You could have asked for the hoover to vacuum yourself?
