Me and my boyfriend just got back from a weekend in California where we stayed in a room we booked on AirBNB.

There were guests staying in the other rooms who seemed a bit rowdy when they arrived but we just put it down to them being excited. Unfortunately they only got louder and after having no sleep at all I was pretty pissed to say the least.

We recorded the noise on our phones so we had evidence when we complained to AirBNB but they pretty much accused us of making it up and implying that it was us making the noise.

What a bunch of con artists – they will tell you anything to get out of reimbursing you.

Alternatives to Airbnb?

My friends and I went to Vegas a few weeks ago and tried to save a few bucks by staying at an airbnb place just off the strip. Long story short, the place was terrible! It was dirty, smelly, didn’t really look like the pictures… just awful. Long story short we filed a claim with Airbnb to get our money back, but it’s been over 2 weeks and we still haven’t heard anything back except a standard bs form email saying that they received the complaint. So annoying!

My question is: Are there any good alternatives to airbnb that treat their customers better? I realize there are always hotels, and that’s fine… but surely there is someone else out there running or building a better service than Airbnb’s terrible customer service right?!

Airbnb Nightmare!

OMG my boyfriend and our friends just came back from a visit to Del Mar to watch the horse races, and the place we found on airbnb literally had cum stains on the comforter!!! The whole place was a mess… like it was cleaned by the worst house keeper EVER! There were beer bottles piled up in the kitchen, rotting fruit in a bowl, a used wash cloth on the kitchen counter, oh yeah and did I mention the cum stains on the comforter?!? We took pictures and sent them to airbnb but so far haven’t heard anything at all… this experience seriously ruined our weekend! Should have just stayed in a hotel.

Thieves

I have been an Airbnb host for a couple of years now and up until last month, I was reasonably satisfied.

I had a middle aged couple interested in staying in one of my units and on paper, they seemed like the perfect guests.

That is, until I saw the state of my unit after they left.

Practically everything that wasn’t attached was stolen, including linen, pillows, cutlery and crockery. I was in a bit of a state of shock when I called Airbnb but their reaction to the situation shocked me even more.

They told me that I would need to supply receipts for all the things that had been stolen. Obviously they weren’t expecting me to have them, because when I said I would fax copies through they backtracked and said that there was really nothing they could do.

I will NEVER be putting my property at risk again by hosting through Airbnb. Very bloody disappointed.

AAAAAhhhh BEDBUGS

I just returned from a trip to Peru where my wife and I stayed in a room we rented through airbnb. Guess what… THE BED HAD BEDBUGS! We told the host but he said that was his only room so we could either take it or find somewhere else to stay! It was almost midnight when we arrived so there wasn’t any real time to find another place that night and we were so tired from the long flight that we ended up literally sleeping on the floor! The next day we checked into a hotel. I know I could file a claim with airbnb but honestly it’s not worth the trouble for a few bucks. Airbnb isn’t really worth the small cost savings… seriously.

Rotton Eggs

Oh man I’m so glad somebody made a site like this! My girlfriend and I were supposed to stay in an airbnb room a few weeks ago in San Diego for 3 nights, but when we got there the room had such a terrible smell (seriously it was like rotten eggs mixed with mold!) we literally ended up leaving within 10 minutes and spending twice as much at a hotel! We complained to the host first but he said there wasn’t anything he could do about it and he wouldn’t give us our money back, so then we complained to Airbnb and they said they needed “documentation” of the smell in order to provide a “partial refund”! HOW DO YOU DOCUMENT A SMELL?!?! We argued for a few emails back and forth then finally gave up. We were so frustrated, I’m pretty much positive we’ll never try airbnb again!

AirBNB Hosting NIGHTMARE!

I’ve hosted many rooms on AirBNB for almost 2 years and always had a 100% perfect rating, but then I caught two of my guests sneaking in their friend and having him stay with them without telling me. I was annoyed but I very reasonably said that he could just pay $10 per night for the 3 nights he stayed, and we would call it even. They agreed to my face, but secretly they made up a story about mice and bugs being in the condo and filed not one but two complaints directly with airbnb! I thought, wow that’s annoying, so I promptly responded to the claims with lengthy explanations about what REALLY happened, expecting that airbnb would naturally see through the lies of these two young kids. Instead, Airbnb gave the kids HALF of their money back for the three week long reservation even though they had already stayed 18 of the 21 days before making a complaint! Even better than that, the kids damaged both of their rooms, stole money, wine glasses, and other kitchen items, yet when I filed security deposit claims against both of them including photos and witnesses, airbnb literally ignored the claims without so much as a response and refunded the kids 100% of their security deposits!

Long story short, I’ve had enough of terrible service by large companies that just don’t feel like they need to give a crap about their customers, even a long-term host with a perfect rating.
